Course Aims

The Level 4 units lay the foundation of learning by providing a broad introduction to construction and different management skills. This develops and strengthens core skills while preparing students for specialist subjects at Level 5 or to enter employment with the qualities necessary for job roles that require some personal responsibility. Students will gain a wide range of construction knowledge linked to practical skills gained through research, independent study, directed study and workplace scenarios. Students are involved in vocational activities that help them to develop behaviours (the attitudes and approaches required for competence) and transferable skills. Transferable skills are those such as communication, teamwork, research and analysis, which are highly valued in higher education and in the workplace. The Foundation study programme is a one-year, full-time experience that allows you to explore a variety of disciplines within an art and design framework. This is supported throughout the year by a programme of critical studies, drawing, and visual studies.

The study programme is made up of 3 units, divided into 3 terms, the first is experimental and experiential, the second is developmental and concerned with progression to higher education, and the third is the realisation of the year鈥檚 work. Once you have completed the course you will be equipped to use critical thinking skills to extract information from a range of texts (including one literary text such as a novel or play) and to write in a variety of contexts (both descriptively and creatively).

In addition, you will undertake a series of speaking and listening tasks designed to improve your communication skills in situations such as job interviews and individual presentations.

This course covers aspects of women鈥檚 hairdressing. Our students develop skills in principles and practice of hairdressing services, cutting hair using basic techniques, style, set and dress hair, plait and twist hair, colour and lighten hair, styling, and finishing services. To inspire learning and widen the experience to achieve your maximum potential within the industry, we run a commercial salon where you will work on paying clients and have the opportunities to be part of professional training workshops, guest stylists, and industry talks. You will work with a range of clients of different ages, genders, and ethnicities to develop your confidence to work with all clients. To gain this qualification, students will successfully achieve one externally set synoptic examination and one externally set synoptic practical examination.

Practical skills and techniques are developed through the completion of ten required practical activities which are integrated into class teaching time.

Animal studies courses are for anyone who wants a career working with animals. You do not need any experience working in an animal care role or any previous animal care qualifications. It will allow you to learn, develop and practice the skills required for further study on a range of level 2 programmes offered at the Suffolk Rural campus.

Attendance to all aspects of the study programme is required, typically 3 days per week on campus and an additional day in work placement. To achieve this qualification you will be assessed using a range of practical demonstrations and written assignments which will be used to compile a portfolio of evidence, plus one multiple choice exam.

The qualification is suitable for adults 19+ looking for a career change. The course aims to introduce you to the basics of dog grooming including basic restraint, handling techniques, bathing, grooming, nail clipping and cleanliness.

To earn this qualification, you must complete a range of mandatory and optional units.

The course offers a blend of theory, direct study, and practical workshops to underpin the skills and knowledge required to meet the assessment criteria. Attendance is vital to achieving your course and developing your practical skills. To achieve the L2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants you will be assessed using a range of practical demonstrations, an online assessment and written assignments.

Learners gain hands-on experience across livestock, crops and machinery, building confidence working in real farm environments. The programme prepares students for the demands of the agricultural sector by developing both technical ability and workplace readiness.

This qualification is a one-year full-time programme which will include a broad introduction to livestock production, crop husbandry, machinery use and safe working practices. Learners study a range of modules, including:

Level 2 Technical Certificate in Equine is a qualification for those aged 16-18 who are looking to start a career in the equine industry.

The equine industry is diverse and includes a wide range of businesses and opportunities, for example, riding schools, livery yards, competition yards, breeders, welfare charities and freelance services. Roles within the industry may include riding, but there are also a variety of non-riding roles, for example, retail, manufacturing or event management.

Working with horses can be extremely rewarding, but it does require hard work and, at times, long hours. In order to be successful, being dedicated and enthusiastic is essential.

This qualification will allow you to gain hands-on experience and practical knowledge to work with horses, or progress to further learning and training in this area.

Course structure

• Three to four days on site, three days for Equine based lessons and one day for English and/or Maths as required.
• One day per week for a work placement with a local employer.
• One day per week for home study and revision.

Assessment methods

• Two multiple choice exams that are externally set and marked.

To achieve this Level 2, you will be required to complete a synoptic assignment, an externally marked exam on the mandatory units, Health & Safety exam, plus assignments for the optional units.

As part of your Study Programme, you must also complete 150 hours of work experience alongside attendance at college to achieve this qualification. Typical placements may include kennels, catteries, pet shops, farms, farm parks, zoos, animal sanctuaries, animal rescue centres and veterinary practices.

You will learn how to draft financial statements for limited companies, perform complex management accounting tasks, learn about the taxation system in the UK and develop your own business skills.

This qualification will suit students aged 19 and over, and who are currently employed as early years Level 3 practitioners at a senior level, working with children from birth to 5 years of age. It would suit learners who are looking to develop leadership and specialist skills for use in their current role, or in preparation to take on a role such as a room senior, deputy or manager.

The course consists of 18 units. Each unit contains both skills and knowledge elements which will be assessed by your tutor/ assessor. Skills criteria will be assessed via observation of your practice for those who do not already hold a full and relevant level 3 qualification) and professional discussions. Knowledge criteria will be assessed via written work (no exams), including assignments, reflective written tasks, evidence of activity planning, and observations. Document evidence such as assessments and tracking within early years, and evidence of leading CPD and colleague training.

This qualification is a good choice for you if you are looking to progress to become a Senior Practitioner within the early year鈥檚 workforce. The Senior Practitioner will use crucial leadership skills to mentor others across all roles and responsibilities in the early year鈥檚 workforce.

On completion of the course, students will be excellently placed to move into managerial roles, or work within the early year sector outside of childcare in roles such as family support practitioner, social work assistant, and children鈥檚 centre coordinator. Students will also be well prepared to enter higher education at the degree level.

This qualification is about the maintenance of a chainsaw and cross-cutting trees at ground level.

Cross-cutting operations will include cross-cutting timber under tension in the form of fallen branches, tops, tree sections, severed uprooted stems, horizontal stems, or any timber in a similar situation. This describes the cross-cutting of trees or timber into either manageable sections or to a given length and diameter specification, either where trees have been felled (鈥渁t stump鈥�), or at a conversion point to where trees or timber have been extracted.

The course content includes:

• Identify the appropriate protective clothing and equipment,
• Work Preparation,
• Servicing and Maintaining the Saw,
• Cross-cutting of timber

This course is aimed at learners that are looking to start a career in the land-based engineering industry.

PA1 Foundation is a pre-requisite for this course. You will also need a reasonable knowledge of maths for the calibration calculations.

• Correct selection of nozzles and pressure for spraying conditions and types of pesticides used

You will need to bring: All-weather clothing, steel toe-capped boots and appropriate spraying personal protective equipment (PPE). PPE required: full-face shield, overalls, and gloves (the basic requirement for the course is coveralls type 5/6 (Tyvec), and Nitrile gloves 300mm long. Please bring knapsack sprayer and a jug if you have one. You may wish to bring writing materials to take your own course note on the day and a calculator is essential.

PA1 is a pre-requisite for this course.

You must already have the NPTC PA1 Pesticide Spraying Foundation (0216-49) qualification to be able to sit the assessment for the PA6 course.

Personal Protective Equipment required: Wellington boots. Please bring your own gloves, overalls, full-face shield and respirator if you desire. Don鈥檛 worry if you don鈥檛 have this equipment available; you will be able to borrow this from the tutor on the day of the course.

Entry Requirements: You must have already passed the NPTC PA1 Safe Use of Pesticides Spraying Foundation (0216-49) qualification, and you must be competent in Tractor driving/operation.

Assessment: This course leads to a City & Guilds Level 2 Award NPTC 021650 via a competency assessment carried out by the NPTC. Once you have completed the training course, you will be contacted by the NPTC to arrange a convenient time and location for your assessment (assessment is not carried out on the day of the course). The practical assessment will include observation and oral questioning and will cover jug tests and calibration of the ground crop sprayer. If you are not experienced in using a ground crop sprayer, please use the time between the course training day and the assessment to gain a level of practical experience. T Levels are a new qualification designed to combine the best elements of academic and vocational learning. The T Level in Education and Childcare is a two-year programme designed to support you in becoming a fully qualified Early Years Practitioner at level 3 with the option to go straight into work or to move into higher education. One T Level is equivalent to 3 A levels but with a specific focus on the industry that you are interested in.

In the first year of your course, you will cover core components that develop your knowledge and understanding of the elements that underpin working in a childcare or education setting with children and young people aged 0-19 years. The Curriculum design has been co collaborated with Suffolk/ Norfolk Constabulary Training Department and key Senior Officers. Course structure

The course is theory-based and requires attendance on site, 1 day per week. Further home study and revision is required to successfully achieve the qualification.

Learners will attend their workplace, with an individualised employment schedule, completing the workplace induction and learning the tasks and duties required of them. Learners will be able to gain a good understanding of the workplace environment and be given support and opportunities to develop their workplace skills.

The learners will receive Job Coach support tailored to their needs throughout the Internship and will have access to a range of workshops, which are employment-based sessions. The Route to College (Working with Animals) course is for anyone who wants a career working with animals. You do not need any experience working in an animal care role or any previous animal care qualifications. It will allow you to learn, develop and practice the skills required for further study on a range of programmes offered at the Suffolk Rural campus.

This is a one year programme, starting in September.

Attendance to all aspects of the study programme is required. This is typically 3 days per week on campus, participating in a range of both practical and classroom-based activities.

To achieve this qualification you will be assessed using a range of practical demonstrations and written assignments, which will be used to compile a portfolio of evidence.

This qualification is designed for learner鈥檚 either employed in an early years practitioner role or in a volunteering role in an early years setting to be able to meet the assessment requirements of this qualification. An early years setting refers to any professional care provided for babies and young children under 2 years. A good level of written and reading English is essential. This qualification is designed to explore the statutory requirements of the early years framework, Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework, along with non-statutory guidance, Development Matters and Birth to 5 Matters. This qualification has been developed to engage practitioners in specialist training when caring for babies and young children under 2 years, as identified in the statutory requirements. This qualification is a professional development unit of study to improve professional skills for practitioners working or volunteering with babies and young children under 2 years.

What you will learn

This Qualification consists of 1 mandatory unit incorporating both knowledge and skills elements. The mandatory unit covers subjects such as individual needs of babies and young children, adhering to the care requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) to meet individual needs, establish and maintain warm, responsive relationships with babies and young children, and support the development and learning of babies and young children. After successful completion of the Level 3 Award in working with babies and young children under 2 years, we recommend progressing onto one of our part-time childcare courses at Level 3, Level 4 or Level 5.

This qualification will provide you with the theoretical foundation needed for career progression, for example, consultancy work, or further study in arboriculture or related land-based sectors.

Course structure

Attendance is part-time, one day per week.

The qualification consists of four mandatory units and at least one other optional unit. Mandatory units include:

• Tree biomechanics and maintenance
• Principles of tree management
• Tree development and protection

Learners must complete all mandatory units and the optional unit(s) to meet the qualification requirements.

Assessment methods

Learners will complete and submit coursework across the academic year, which will be made up of reports, research tasks, and scenario-based written work.

There are no external exams. All units are internally assessed with a pass/fail grading system.

All coursework is subject to an external moderation process.

Based in our recently refurbished animal centre, learners will have the opportunity to work with nearly 60 different animal species, covering a wide range of taxa. All tasks and portfolio evidence are designed with the zoo keeping profession in mind, reflecting current industry standards.

Attendance is required for two days per week, with additional independent study expected. Work experience is strongly encouraged to complement the practical training.

To achieve the qualification, learners will be assessed through a combination of practical demonstrations and written assignments. These will be compiled into a portfolio of evidence, which may also include photographs and videos.

The course will be delivered over 2 full days at Suffolk Rural, Otley near Ipswich. Upon successful completion of the course, delegates will receive a jointly endorsed certificate from Ipswich Borough Council and 天美传媒.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course but delegates will be required to have a good understanding of English.

Designed to help learners overcome social, emotional, and academic barriers, this course provides tailored support in small, focused classes. Overview:

Route to College (Working in the land based Sector) is a course for anyone who wants a career working within the land based sector. This includes Horticulture, Agriculture, Arboriculture, Conservation or Floristry. You do not need any experience of working in a land-based role or any previous land-based qualifications. It will allow you to learn, develop and practice the skills required for further study on a range of听 programmes offered at the Suffolk Rural campus.

This is a one year programme, starting in September.

Attendance to all aspects of the study programme is required. This is typically 3 days per week on campus, participating in a range of both practical and classroom-based activities.

This is a full Level 2 qualification that upon completion will allow you to work as a qualified nail technician.

This course consists of 9 practical assessments to show competency in manicure and your chosen system. A variety of systems are taught but you can select your chosen system to complete your assessments. External examinations must be completed to demonstrate听you have attained the knowledge required.

The course is a full-time programme, delivered over 2 days per week between January and June as part of the academic year.
