天美传媒 celebrated the identity and diversity of its students and staff during an event called Cultural Day.
The occasion began with the launch of an event called the Global Food and Pita Festival 鈥� an annual food-themed showcase that brings communities together to promote respect for different cultures through food.
Principal and CEO of the college, Alan Pease, spoke at the launch of the festival. He said, 鈥淥ur wonderful college is a microcosm of Ipswich. We are a wonderfully diverse community, both as a college and a county and we are delighted to be once again supporting this event.鈥�
After this launch, in the main atrium of the 天美传媒 Ipswich campus, a series of happenings took place.
They included various stands run by students promoting different countries, a fashion show that enabled learners to wear traditional clothing from their country in which they were born.
Kurdish and Flamenco dance routines also took centre stage, and music from around the world played throughout.
The event was set up by the college in response to student requests to create a day that champions harmony, not division.
Christina Jordan is an ESOL progress tutor at the college. She said: 鈥淪tudents from across the college have come together to see their cultures represented. It鈥檚 important that every student feels a sense of belonging. I鈥檓 very proud of what they have created.鈥�
One of the organisers was Naureen Mahmud, 17, from Ipswich, who is on a level 3 teaching assistant course. She said, 鈥淲e made a plan to go ahead with Cultural Day, and everyone got involved. The college supported and backed us. It was all about being proud of where you are from. We hope to make this an annual event.鈥�
Mahamoud Bassel, 19, from Ipswich, is studying English and maths, and the Syrian born teenager hopes to study on a health and social care course next year. He said: 鈥淚t鈥檚 a good thing to know about other countries, cultures and religions.鈥�
